The Oregon Convention Center is one of the largest convention facilities in the Pacific Northwest, attracting out-of-town visitors to national conventions, tradeshows and meetings, and local people to special events.

As an OCC Welcome Agent you’ll call the welcome desks home, working throughout the Convention Center in a variety of spaces. You will essentially be a “concierge” of OCC, providing information, engaging with guests, pointing out things that make OCC special, assisting guests who need to check out scooters or wheelchairs, and assisting with lost and found. Every group will be different. From the pageantry of Rose City ComicCon, to industry conventions like the Society of Investigative Dermatology, to the Portland Auto Show, you’ll get the variety you crave.
As the Welcome Agent, you will:
- Project a positive, professional image as the “concierge” of OCC
- Engage our guests to create a memorable experience
- Consult with guests on locations/times of activities for their event
- Gather information from guests regarding their experience at OCC
- Maintain Lost and Found log, assist visitors with the retrieval of items.
- Coordinate the checkout of amenities such as scooters and wheelchairs
- Provide information about local restaurants/hotels /activities
- Assist with wayfinding
- Create and deploy a variety of signs to assist with guest navigation
- Proactively engage guests throughout the venue
- Knowledge of administrative, customer service and problem-solving practices and office procedures
- Ability to engage with others while demonstrating an upbeat personality
- Ability to troubleshoot and provide quality customer service
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, other organizations and the general public
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

TO QUALIFY

Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED, and
- One year of general office and specialized customer service experience OR
- An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the successful performance of the essential job duties.
Working Conditions:
The Oregon Convention Center (OCC) Welcome Agent, will work indoors with the possibility of working outdoors occasionally. This role requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, and physical activities such as pushing and pulling, bending, and lifting.

- Multilingual

- One year fast paced, high volume customer service experience
COMPENSATION, BENEFITS, AND REPRESENTATION
Based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements, Metro’s internal equity review process, and the candidates’ qualifications, the appointment will typically be made at $22.67 per hour.
This position is eligible for overtime and is represented by AFSCME 3580. It is classified as an Administrative Specialist I (Download PDF reader). Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the positions.
