Security Officers are responsible for the safety and well-being of employees, volunteers, and visitors. In their role, security officers will respond to various types of emergencies such as first aid, lockdowns, missing persons, fire alarms, and more. They also play an integral role in the guest experience and contribute by ensuring parking lot signage is in place, responding to customer questions, and ensuring the property is ready for opening.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for the safety, security, and well-being of employees, volunteers, and visitors-by providing exceptional and equitable customer service to the public and staff;
- Patrol the OMSI Waterfront Ave Campus, and act as a deterrent to theft and vandalism;
- Lockdown and arm exterior buildings;
- Assist with OMSI event support, such as OMSI After Dark programming;
- Complete incident, theft and vandalism reports and submit them to the Health, Safety, and Security Manager daily, while adhering to confidentiality, protocol, and community agreements;
- Provide first aid to staff, volunteers, and visitors;
- Ensure proper exterior signage is in place prior to opening and throughout their shift;
- Respond to and de-escalate aggressive individuals.
Working Conditions
- This position is non-exempt, paid hourly;
- This position is regular full-time scheduled for 40 hours/week;
- Position shifts depend on business needs and may require working overnight, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Some shifts may be unsupervised.
- Physical demands include: 80% standing, 10% sitting, 10% lifting/carrying/pushing;

Secondary Job Responsibilities
Provide support to the Security officer team and Facilities department as assigned by the Safety, Health and Security Manager. Secondary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist and/or coordinate efforts in finding lost children/parents in the museum;
- Work with local jurisdictions to report graffiti, encampments, biohazards, and large trash cleanups;
- Fire alarm response, procedures and evacuation of the building must be understood and supported;
- Perform support tasks for the facilities department, as needed.

PREFERENCES:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products;
- Developed knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles;
- Proficient or native fluency in a second language (non-English).
Education & Work Experience
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 1 year of customer service experience;
- Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.
PREFERENCES:
- Experience working in public settings, with a security/safety focus.

- Ability to pass pre-employment checks, such as criminal background checks, reference checks;

Current DPSST Unarmed Security Professional Certification Card:
- If not licensed, training can be provided at no cost for selected candidates as part of the onboarding process;

Current Adult and Pediatric CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications:
- If not licensed, training can be provided at no cost for selected candidates as part of the onboarding process.
