Position Overview
The Lead Infusion Nurse is key to department success because they ensure that daily infusion schedules are optimized for the best patient and staff success. They do this through coordination with the Lead Scheduler to match resource needs and staff availability. This key position requires strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with a deep understanding of daily infusion operations. This is a full-time position. The hours are Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm with a 30-minute lunch. Daily schedules can be flexible based on business needs.
Essential Job Functions
Lead responsibilities include the following:
- Create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture
- Assists with review of existing and development of new policies and procedures for the nursing department.
- Provides the scheduling department with available treatment times based on current/projected staffing
- Facilitates proactive patient coordination with the WVMC Short Stay Department, WVMC Radiation Oncology Department, and other outside infusion centers as necessary.
- Provides infusion coverage as needed
- Monitor day-to-day operations, trouble shoot problems and advise Manager/Director of any concerns
- Promote staff consistency and adherence to practice policies
- Serve as content and EHR expert for nursing staff
- Plan workloads, delegate tasks and set deadlines
- Discover training needs and provide coaching
- Keeps Manager/Director appraised of overall department performance (i.e., staffing or resource needs, completion dates, changes/delays, etc.)
- Provide general input on employee's performance to Manager/Director
- Work closely with Manager/Director with hiring and training employees
- Set an example by staying current on industry trends, informing team members of new policies or procedures, and displaying integrity.
- Listen to team members’ feedback and work with Manager/Director to resolve any issues or conflicts
- Communicate changes in patient orders from providers to nurses.
- Coordinate with authorization and admixture departments for same-day treatment issues
- Manage chart messages and ensure execution of same-day provider orders
- Guide staff in handling patient hypersensitivity reactions when needed.
- Call 911 for patient emergencies requiring transfer to a higher care level.
- Address patient concerns and complaints during care
- Maintain OCN certification.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
- Valid nursing license
- Nursing degree (Baccalaureate, Associate or Diploma) from an accredited school of nursing
- Oncology Certification (OCN)
- Outstanding patient management skills
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and leadership skills
- Great organization and time management
- Problem solver with a positive attitude that strives to encourage that culture within the team
- Demonstrated knowledge of clinical operations and workflow planning
- 5 years of nursing experience in Oncology
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN preferred
- Bilingual preferred - Spanish
