JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Internal Audit will oversee the internal audit function, providing strategic leadership to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, effective risk management, and robust internal controls. This role will report functionally to the Audit Committee and administratively to the COO, collaborating with senior management to enhance organizational efficiency and risk management practices. The role also involves managing relationships and processes related to third-party vendor audits to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience : 8 years of audit experience in the financial services industry, including 5 years in a leadership role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Leadership :
- Develop and maintain a risk-based Internal Audit Plan aligned with the bank’s risk profile and regulatory expectations.
- Provide regular updates to the Audit Committee and senior management on audit progress, findings, and recommendations.
- Serve as a thought leader in risk management and internal controls, advising the Audit Committee and management on emerging risks and industry best practices.
- Develop and implement FDICIA compliance for management attestation over internal controls as the bank approaches $1 billion in assets.
Audit Execution :
Manage internal and external resources to execute the Audit Plan efficiently, ensuring compliance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards.Conduct and oversee audits to identify control gaps, evaluate effectiveness, and recommend practical solutions.Ensure thorough documentation and reporting of audit findings, including corrective action plans.Complete an annual RFP process for third-party audit vendors, including review of proposed audit programs and vendor performance references, and provide the audit committee recommendations on the annual audit plan.Coordinate and oversee audits of third-party vendors, ensuring alignment with the bank’s risk management framework and regulatory requirements.Collaboration and Communication :
Engage with business units to develop knowledge of operations and ensure risk assessments align with strategic objectives.Collaborate with management and external auditors to support regulatory exams and other reviews.Communicate significant risks, exposures, and control gaps to senior management and ensure timely remediation.Manage the agenda and meeting packets for the Board of Director’s Audit Committee meetings.Technology and Innovation :
Leverage audit technology platforms to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.Stay current with industry trends and integrate best practices into the audit function.Regulatory and Special Projects :Act as the primary liaison for regulatory exams related to the audit function.Participate in special projects, investigations, and ad-hoc assignments as required.Oversee the certification process and internal review.Additional Responsibilities :Ensure involvement in addressing control gaps when losses or errors occur, including reviewing large sundry losses at RMC and determining necessary process changes.This position currently does not have any direct reports but may gain direct reports as the bank prepares for FDICIA compliance. This role is hands-on and requires active involvement in day-to-day operations.WORK CONTEXT :
