What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Supervisor position at Oregon Potato Company?
Oversee all production functions occurring during the shift. Be accountable to meet production goals in a safe and efficient manner. Supervise all employee activities and interact with all departments to identify and solve production issues.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Follow Food Safety, Quality, Personal Safety, and any other Washington Potato Company’s Polices.
- Directly supervise operators and all production general laborers on the shift.
- Administer feedback and progressive discipline when needed to all laborers on shift.
- Interact with Plant Manager to decide on production, schedule, product changes, etc.
- Take ultimate responsibility for effectiveness and safety of packaging, processing, freezing, waste plant operations, sanitation.
- Ensure Processing Operators, Packaging Operators, and Sanitors are managing their areas in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ensure Processing Operators are holding freezer operators accountable for proper freezer operation, motor defrosts and full defrosts according to defrost specifications.
- Set example of safe working attitude, respectful workplace, and safe working behavior.
- Hold Packaging Operators accountable to ensure that all customer packaging specifications are met.
- Maintain close and cordial contact with Quality Assurance in order to produce product to customer specifications.
- Analyze peeling, processing, and packaging efficiency and take corrective action if below target.
- Respond to intercom calls in regard to operational decisions.
- Work closely with maintenance department to troubleshoot potential mechanical/electrical issues and to minimize unscheduled downtime.
- Attend shift change meetings with necessary information in regard to current product order number, peeling efficiency, pounds produced, any production issues.
- Produce peeling efficiency, pounds produced, downtime, and employee timekeeping reports in company database.
- Assist Plant Manager in planning for capital spending and department budgets.
- Maintain good personal hygiene, follow GMP’s and maintain a clean, safe and sanitary workplace. Immediately report and take action, if necessary, when any situation that may cause product to be contaminated or compromised.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals.
- Well organized and able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must have some PC skills in MS Office and database management.
- Knowledge of food industry and is compliant with GMP standards.
- Able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with efficiency and accuracy.
- Able to travel to all areas of the plant efficiently, including climbing stairs.
- Able to lift 50 lbs frequently during shift
- Must be able to work effectively and safely in a wet and hot/cold environment.
- Must be able to read, write and comprehend English.
Ideal Candidates must be willing to:
- Work according to the necessary schedule to meet job requirements.
- Work any shift and also Saturdays and Sundays. These positions are full-time, two consecutive days per week will be scheduled for days off.
- Work overtime as needed
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Food Safety and Quality Documents:
- Production floor paperwork, Quality grade sheets, and Food Safety Management paperwork.
- All paperwork will be legible (will follow Document Control Policy).
Supervision of Others
- Direct daily activities of all employees in production on the corresponding shift.
Pay: $78,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year/DOE
