Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Development & Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director of Development, Scholarships and University Initiatives at the Oregon State University Foundation is the chief front-line fundraising position responsible for leading a comprehensive fundraising program for scholarships and fellowships, experiential learning, student development programming, and regional programs across the university, at annual, mid-level, major, principal and planned gift levels. In addition, the unit leads fundraising for Oregon State University’s Student Affairs Division, non-college-specific scholarships, fellowships and financial aid, as well as the OSU Cascades Campus in Bend, Oregon, and the Foundation’s Regional Gifts Program, among other areas that serve students university-wide. The Senior Director of Development is the Foundation’s chief liaison and expert to the university and other Foundation staff on scholarship and student success fundraising. The Senior Director of Development is expected to devote 70% of work time to major gift fundraising activities and 30% of work time to management and administrative responsibilities. Prior leadership and supervisory experience is required in this role.

Metrics may be subject to adjustment and change on an annual basis based on organizational needs.
In addition to OSU Foundation colleagues, the key partners for this position include the College Deans; Chancellor and Dean of OSU Cascades; Vice Provost for Student Affairs; the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management; as well as other senior academic leaders.
Major Duties
Serve as the Foundation’s lead development officer on scholarship and student support philanthropy; develop collaborative partnerships and strong relationships with key university-wide academic leaders and College Deans; ensure coordination and consistency across the university.
Serve as the chief development liaison to the Division of Student Affairs and the Department of Enrollment Management/Financial Aid and work closely with the Vice Provost, Associate Provost and their senior team to develop, identify and advance philanthropic opportunities and create an articulate and compelling case for support.
Serve as a point of contact for major gift opportunities for University departments without fundraising goals or assigned development staff, such as the Graduate School, Undergraduate Studies, Library, Extension & Engagement and International Education.
Provide leadership for the fundraising programs of the Scholarships and University Initiatives unit and supervise and manage all assigned staff.
Develop and implement a long-range strategic planning process to increase and grow the major gift pipeline and overall fundraising success over the next five to ten years for scholarships and student support university-wide and the Scholarships and University Initiatives unit.
Increase alumni engagement through event participation, volunteering opportunities, and giving, in order to broaden and deepen meaningful relationships on behalf of the unit.
Provide visible leadership across the entire organization, in addition to the unit, as a senior member of the Foundation’s staff by engaging in organization-wide activities such as the quarterly leadership team, development management meetings, all-staff meetings, and staff events.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Bachelor’s degree and ten years of major gift development experience in higher education or related educational work experience. Education and experience equivalencies will be considered. At least 3 years progressively responsible experience supervising and leading a team of exempt and non-exempt fundraising professionals. Significant evening and occasional weekend work will be required. Must be able / willing to travel frequently, at times requiring overnight stays, and by various modes of transportation.

- Meet the university-wide annual and multi-year philanthropic goals for the scholarships and university initiatives unit, including regional programs and OSU-Cascades.
- Provide leadership and mentoring for the scholarships and university initiatives team; ensure the unit and its individual development officers meets its and their personal annual fundraising and engagement goals.
- Recognized by the university and the foundation as the lead fundraiser and fundraising strategist on all matters related to scholarship and student success-related fundraising opportunities.
Metrics may be subject to adjustment and change on an annual basis based on organizational needs.
- Manage a portfolio of 40-60 relationships rated at $250,000 .
- Raise $2.5 - $5M million dollars, including 8-10 gifts at $50,000 and above
- Open 12-24 new proposals at the $50,000 level
- Conduct 80-100 face-to-face visits
