Job Summary
The College of Education is seeking an hourly Academic Wage: Faculty Research Assistant. This is a part-time (0.49 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term position. This position is anticipated to last approximately ten (10) months.
This position would fill a short term need to do data gathering and analysis with a team of educational researchers who use data to inform both research and practice in the field of dual language bilingual education. This position will focus on identifying, recruiting, and interviewing bilingual participants, managing bilingual data, cleaning bilingual transcripts, analyzing bilingual data, and engaging in the dissemination of data in Spanish, English, and bilingual venues.

Key Responsibilities
50% Data collection and data management
- Identify, recruit, and interview bilingual educators who meet participant criteria of the study.
- Ensure data is transcribed, cleaned, de-identified, and systematically stored in password protected digital files.
- Make certain that interactions with researchers and study participants contribute to supporting a sense of belonging and equitable experiences
30% Data analysis and data dissemination
- Engage in individual and team-oriented rounds of data analysis, data interpretation, and drawing conclusions from the data collected.
- Incumbent will contribute to co-authored academic manuscripts, and participate in conference presentations that are culturally inclusive for a broad and diverse audience.
20% Engage in weekly remote research team meetings. An overarching goal of the project is to address the shortage of bilingual teachers in Oregon schools. The project aims to identify and publish culturally sustaining practices used in the preparation of dual language bilingual educators, an underrepresented group of teachers in Oregon. The work done in this short-term temporary position directly supports this goal.
What You Will Need
- Masters in Education, Spanish, Sociology, or related field.
- Spanish-English bilingual.
- Experience recruiting bilingual participants for qualitative research.
- Experience employing qualitative research methods with bilingual participants.
- Experience managing qualitative data.
- Experience using qualitative data management system for data analysis.
- Experience analyzing and writing-up qualitative data.
- Experience writing academic manuscripts for publication.
- Ability to describe gaps and biases in existing research in the field.
What We Would Like You to Have
- PhD in Education, Spanish, Sociology, or related field
- Experience working in a collaborative setting.
- Knowledge of critical theoretical frameworks.
- Knowledge of bilingual education policy in the US.
- Knowledge of bilingual teacher education practices.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Position requires access to a computer and the internet. The incumbent will collect qualitative data remotely. Research team meetings will be held weekly and remotely. Other job tasks can be conducted per the work schedule determined between incumbent and supervisor.
