This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time, seasonal (March-September), Education Program Assistant 1 position for Oregon Sea Grant at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position will be located at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon.

Oregon Sea Grant, based at OSU since 1971, is one of 34 Sea Grant College Programs established by Congress as a partnership between universities and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Through an integrated program of research, extension and education, our mission is to spark discovery, understanding, and collaboration to foster healthy, inclusive, and resilient coastal communities and ecosystems (seagrant.oregonstate.edu). Oregon Sea Grant funds research projects, manages fellowships and internships, and implements extension and education programs to address issues of importance to coastal communities and ecosystems. The program also operates the Hatfield Visitor Center, a public marine science museum / aquarium at the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon. It is through this facility that many of the Oregon Sea Grant marine education programs are delivered, and where a wide variety of workshops, field trips, short courses, and events are offered for the public, schoolteachers, K-12 students, and other youth groups.

The Education Program Assistant 1 (Marine Educator) presents marine science labs and programs for the K-12 school audience and other youth and family groups. This position carries out and assists with a variety of field trips, labs, youth programs, public events and provides other education assistance as needed, including planning and leading activities for summer day camps, and driving campers in twelve passenger vans.

The work of this position happens on a varying schedule during the busy seasons (spring and summer) in wet labs and classrooms, in the Hatfield Visitor Center, and at various field sites including mudflats and tidepools. While most work will occur between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, some evening and weekend work is required.
