Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to a fill a part-time (up to 10 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant position in the Department of Integrative Biology at Oregon State University. This position is eligible to students with work study awards.
Michael Blouin's lab studies a variety of topics in evolutionary genetics (https : / / blogs.oregonstate.edu / blouinlab / ). The lab needs someone to help care for their lines of aquatic snails. The lab uses the snails to study the genetics of resistance to infection by a trematode parasite (https : / / en.wikipedia.org / wiki / Schistosomiasis).
The work entails responsibility for feeding all the snail lines three times per week, helping maintain the cleanliness of the animal rooms, cleaning dishes as needed and trips to local stores for lettuce and other supplies. As the lab follows strict protocols to prevent contamination of the lines, the person we hire must be very meticulous and detail oriented.
On average, the work will be 5-10 hours per week and the positions is available to start immediately. The lab needs someone who can work through the summer(s) and ideally, continue to work with the lab the following academic year. There is also potential to be involved in other aspects of the Blouin Lab research . For more information, contact Dr. Blouin. blouin@science.oregonstate.edu.
