Job Overview:
The Weld Quality Control / Quality Assurance Manager will be responsible for overseeing the quality management processes for our steel fabrication and welding operations. This role ensures that all welding and fabrication activities meet our high standards of quality, safety, and compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in welding quality control, an eye for detail, and the ability to lead a team in maintaining excellence across all stages of fabrication.
As a key part of our quality assurance team, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing quality control procedures, conducting inspections, and training staff to maintain high standards across the board. The role will involve working closely with fabrication, welding, and engineering teams to ensure all deliverables meet our clients’ specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Quality Control Oversight: Oversee and manage welding and fabrication processes to ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards, codes, and specifications.
- Inspection & Testing: Conduct visual inspections, mechanical testing, and non-destructive testing (NDT) as necessary to verify weld integrity and quality.
- Compliance Management: Ensure that all welding and fabrication activities are compliant with industry standards such as AWS, ASME, and AISC.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in the welding and fabrication processes, implementing corrective actions and preventive measures as needed.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, certifications, and audits, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
- Collaboration: Work closely with production and project management teams to resolve quality issues and improve fabrication processes.
- Problem Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve welding and fabrication issues in a timely manner to minimize project delays.
- Equipment Knowledge: Familiarity with equipment such as plasma tables, burn tables, shear, press brake, and other fabrication tools is a plus but not required.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in welding quality control or quality assurance management, ideally within the steel fabrication or manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding, and a deep understanding of welding codes and standards (AWS, ASME, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality issues before they become significant problems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
- Familiarity with project management tools and software, as well as the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Welding Inspector certifications (such as CWI, CWE, or equivalent) preferred.
