POSITION PURPOSE:
The Business Office Float assumes responsibility for registration of all patients in accordance with federal, state and Oregon SurgiCenter policies and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Greets and registers all patients in a timely manner. Ensures appropriate supplies are maintained.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Possesses strong initiative to get daily work finished and processed.
- Has ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians and other staff members. Is capable of managing heavy phone traffic.
- Possesses accurate judgment, especially handling insurance claims and dealing with patient accounts.
- Versatile and willing to coordinate with and participate in, when necessary, all other aspects of the Business Office.
- Is courteous, understanding and sympathetic toward patients, physicians and others. Demonstrates a polite, courteous, and friendly manner at all times.
- Participates in Quality Improvement activities.
- Maintains regular attendance.
- Maintains BLS certification.
- Organizational skills are above average.
- Computer literate.
- Handles stressful situations with little or no supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares patient charts and enters patient information into computer.
- Interviews patient, relatives or other responsible individual in order to obtain identifying and biographical information. Interprets Oregon SurgiCenter regulations to patient concerning pre-operative requirements. Explains rates, charges, services and Center policies regarding payment of accounts.
- Obtains signatures for insurance filing and surgery consents.
- Collects patient payments and receipts.
- Answers telephone as needed.
- Learns all other aspects of admitting, scheduling and medical records for optimal efficiency of the business office.
- Participates in the Quality Improvement process and activities including the areas of Safety, Medical Records Maintenance, Patient Satisfaction, Physician Satisfaction, Documentation, Compliance with OSHS Standards, and Risk Management.
- Adheres to HIPAA standards to ensure patient confidentiality.
- Performs other miscellaneous secretarial duties as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS (PHYSICAL):
- Extensive pulling, pushing, bending and lifting.

WORKING CONDITIONS (ENVIRONMENTAL):
- Well-lighted and ventilated with non-hazardous equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma, business course, English and computer skills.
- Cooperative work attitude toward and with co-employees, management, patients, visitors and physicians.
- Maintains CPR certification.
