What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tasting Room Lead position at Oregon Wine LAB?
About Us:
G’day, wine lovers! We’re an urban winery tucked into the heart of Eugene, where the alley’s meet fine wine and good vibes. We’re not your traditional Winery – we bring a bold, laid-back, and unapologetically different approach to wine. Whether you’re here for a cheeky glass or a deep dive into our latest vintage, we’re all about making wine fun, approachable, and full of character. If you’re passionate about a good drop and reckon you’ve got the leadership chops to take our tasting room to the next level, we want to hear from you!
The Role:
We’re on the hunt for a Tasting Room Lead with a bit of grit, a lot of personality, and a love for the vino (and perhaps a couple of cold ones every now and again). You’ll be at the helm of our tasting room – greeting guests with a smile, pouring some of the best wines around, and leading a team of legends. Your days will be filled with everything from sharing yarns with guests to keeping our inventory shipshape, all while ensuring that the vibe stays chill, fun, and true to our urban winery style. If you’re a hospitality gun ready to step up and lead, this gig’s for you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be the life of the party: Run tastings, share your wine knowledge, and ensure everyone’s having a cracker of a time.
- All-in operator: Oversee day-to-day operations, including DTC (direct-to-consumer), event coordination, online, and phone sales.
- Legendary leader: Train, mentor, and manage the tasting room crew, ensuring top-notch service with a relaxed, welcoming vibe.
- Problem-solving pro: Handle any issues like a boss – whether it’s customer complaints or staff hiccups, you’ll sort it with a calm head.
- Social media savvy: Engage with our wine-loving community online, responding to queries via email, phone, and socials.
- Keep it tidy: Make sure the tasting room and garden areas are looking schmick and fully stocked with everything from glasses to wine.
Tasting Room Duties:
- Make it sparkle: Ensure the tasting room is prepped, ready, and looking tip-top for visitors every day.
- Wine educator: Share your wine smarts with staff and customers, leading tastings and helping guests discover their next favourite bottle.
- Sales and wine club wrangler: Guide customers through tastings, help with purchasing decisions, and grow our wine club like a boss.
- Cash connoisseur: Open and close the cash drawer, making sure everything’s balanced and above board.
- Inventory whiz: Stay on top of stock levels, making sure we’ve got everything we need, from wine to tasting room supplies.
What You Bring:
- Must be 21 (because, well, it’s wine!).
- At least 2 years of hospitality experience, ideally in the wine or bevvie industry.
- A genuine love of wine, not just Pinot Noir, and the ability to chat about it with anyone.
- Strong leadership skills – you know how to inspire a team and keep things humming.
- Social media savvy with top-tier communication skills.
- Able to stand, walk, talk, and interact for extended periods.
- Can lift up to 50 lbs (that’s a box of wine for ya).
- OLCC Service Permit or willing to get one.
Bonus Points:
- Wine certifications or heaps of wine knowledge.
- Creative ideas for events that get people talking (and sipping).
- Organised but laid-back – you know how to keep things running smoothly without stressing the small stuff.
Perks:
- Competitive pay tips.
- Employee discounts on wine.
- Accrued PTO.
- Opportunities to grow, learn more about wine, and step up in management.
