GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
This is an entry level position in the Electrical Controls Sales and Engineering Department. This position supports the company's engineering and manufacturing operations by ensuring the production of electrical control panels consistently meet quality and efficiency standards. The Quality Control Specialist I is responsible for maintaining quality standards by evaluating finished products and recording the results. Considerable knowledge and understanding of control panel wiring schematics, panel function, and customer needs is essential. Comprehension of quality standards is required along with strong observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication is a must, as well as a trained eye for detail.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KRA:
Safety/Culture
- Promotes a safe work environment and safe practices to all employees.
- Expectation that Orenco Management's safety, cultural, and professional standards are continuously maintained.
Quality
- Checks finished layout of high flow panels to assure proper setup and design.
- Tests completed high flow panels for defects and proper operation.
- Troubleshoots problems by gathering and analyzing the information.
- Safely tests equipment with voltages up to 600v.
- Inspects and supervises work done by all high flow shops.
- Reports errors to Senior Quality Control Specialist.
- Follows testing documents that are used to ensure panel quality testing in all shops.
- Utilizes error reporting applications. Responsible for following Quality Control SOP's (Standard Operating Procedure).
RGAs
- Tests and analyzes RGA's (Returned Goods Authorization) for high flow panels and parts; reporting findings to Senior Quality Control Specialist.
Research
- Researches and reports on necessary tools and equipment that will be used to improve efficiency and quality of test stations under the direction of the Senior Quality Control Specialist.
- Stays abreast of Orenco related products and technology by reading professional literature and attending industry related seminars.
- Provides feedback to the Senior Quality Control Specialist on any reoccurring problems that may be able to be addressed with changes to our products and/or documentation.
EDUCATION:
Relevant experience working in an electrical control shop wiring panels from an electrical schematic.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Experience using knowledge and awareness to problem solve and troubleshoot without supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret schematic wire diagrams and layout drawings.
- Ability to identify control panel components and understand the function and operation of each component.
- Ability to test, troubleshoot, and repair high flow control panels.
- Knowledge of NEC (National Electric Code) and UL 508a/UL 698a (Underwriters Laboratory) requirements.
- Have knowledge of MVP (digital logic), VCOM (web-based telemetry), electromechanical, and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) controllers.
- Strong knowledge of practices and principles of system troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and to apply power and hand tools.
- Solid knowledge of electrical practices and theory.
- Exceptional analytical skills.
- Basic project management skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to medium industrial manufacturing environment. A significant amount of time is spent moving between offices and the production areas. Exposure to indoor/outdoor production environments involves some limited exposure to chemicals, paints, and solvent fumes that are generated during the distribution and curing processes. PPE such as gloves, safety glasses, face shields, dust masks, fall protection, and hearing protection is periodically required. Respirators are available and may be worn if medical certification and fit training are completed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Seeing, speaking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, prolonged periods of sitting including extended time viewing a computer screen. Intermittent physical activity including standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, and lifting 20 to 50 pounds frequently, occasionally up to 70 pounds. Over 70 pounds employee is required to get assistance.
