JOB TITLE: COUNSELOR FOR SPEDREPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATIONSUPERVISES NAFLSA STATUS: EXEMPT POSITIONSALARY: $55,050 - $69,883 annuallyWORK CALENDAR: 187LOCATION; TRAVEL TO GEORGETOWN AND BELTON TEXASPOSITION SUMMARY: Perform professional work in behavior management, social skills, and counseling for students with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems. Assess the emotional needs of students referred to special education services. To provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Major Responsibilities and Duties: AssessmentSelects and administer assessments and observations to evaluate emotional and behavioral functioning of referred students. Determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and state regulations.Scores and interpret test data.Helps to collect data during the evaluation process and helps to complete a written Full Individual Evaluation report.Participates in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.ConsultationInterprets counseling eligibility criteria to school personnel and parents.
Interprets individual assessments and reports to principals, teachers, parents, and support staff.Meets with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results.Consults with teachers and relevant staff concerning the interpretation of assessment data.
