About The Role
We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for a Production Improvement Engineer within the Specialty Mining Chemical team.
The Production Improvement Engineer (PIE) is responsible for enhancing production processes, optimising efficiency, and improving overall operational performance. They collaborate closely with production and other site teams to identify opportunities for improvement, implement innovative solutions, and drive continuous enhancement of manufacturing processes.

Safety, Health and Environment (SH&E)
Cyanco’s Winnemucca operation is comprised of two NaCN solutions plants and one NaCN solids plant.
Reporting to the Product Line Manager – NaCN, the Production Improvement Engineer works collaboratively with product line team members and other site teams to contribute to meeting the site’s overall operational performance objectives in a safe and sustainable manner. This role is a member of the Winnemucca NaCN Product Line team.

About The Role

What You Will Be Doing

Safety, Health and Environment (SH&E)
- Develop/update production related SH&E procedures and processes and train product line team members.
- Assist with the completion of production procedure job cycle checks (JCCs)
- Assist with the completion of major hazard management (MHM) audits and improvement actions.
- Assist with the completion of site Safety Leadership Interactions (SLIs).
- Complete daily production reporting system (PRS) updates which includes categories and comments for lost production.
- Utilise data analysis techniques to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production efficiency, yield, and downtime. Generate reports and provide insights to management on areas for improvement and performance trends.
- Develop/update production operating procedures and checklists (in cooperation with the technical team and the Production Supervisor).
- Train operators in production operating procedures and checklists (in cooperation with the technical team and the Production Supervisor).
- Analyse daily production process trends and recommend/undertake corrective action.
- Work collaboratively with manufacturing teams to identify root causes of process/quality issues and recommend/undertake corrective actions. Ensure that production processes meet or exceed quality requirements.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement throughout site manufacturing. Facilitate lean manufacturing initiatives and engage all manufacturing employees in identifying improvement opportunities and implementing best practices.
- Lead assigned production improvement projects from inception through implementation, including defining project scope, setting timelines, managing resources, and evaluating project outcomes.
- Tertiary qualifications in an engineering or science discipline.
- 5 years of proven experience in a similar role within a chemical plant or industrial environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical skills to diagnose complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into understandable terms for non-technical stakeholders.
- Skills in training front line operations personnel, fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within deadlines.
