About the role - Blaster Trainee (Wise, NC)
We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for a Blaster Trainee within our Orica USA Commercial team.
The Blaster Trainee position is a unique opportunity tailored for those who are passionate about both driving and the art of blasting. Ideal candidates will possess a CDL and a strong desire to train as a blaster. This role palys a vital part in essential tasks such as loading, tying, and firing, gaining valuable hands-on experience along the way.
Work schedule
- Monday thru Friday
- Home every night
- Local driving (2–3 hours) Early morning
- s approx. 4 AM – 5 AM
- 10-12 hours per day approx.
- Overtime may be needed
What you will be doing
- This Blaster Trainee will assist the site by delivering products, properly following DOT regulatory requirements regarding explosive transportation, maintaining and operating distribution equipment which includes Mobile Manufacturing Units (MMU) and actively seeking opportunities at the customer sites where Orica could sell services.
- This position will also assist blasters and lead blasters under their supervision in conducting shot service activities safely including stemming, timing and proper product use.
- Primarily work in field settings in various types of weather and bench conditions
- Some projects may require travel outside of regional market area
- Must be flexible to customer demands including work schedules and dealing with weather changes
- Aware of work environment, i.e. operation of large haulage vehicles and specialized equipment in and around blast patterns
- Moderate time spent in delivery equipment, including MMU (mobile manufacturing unit)
What you will bring
- At least one year of experience driving and/or handling materials
- Ability to communicate and work in a team environment
- Good attention to detail and math skills to handle inventory on daily basis
- Ability to prioritize various projects, ongoing daily tasks, and high priority situations to maximize efficiency
- Some computer skills preferred including ability/willingness to learn
Physical requirements
- Work environment involves being outside in all types of weather
- Lifting up to 60 pounds and carrying 50 pounds or more of product or other materials
- Must be able to load product, pull large hoses, fill holes, and climb on/off of the truck
- Pushing/pulling in working with equipment
- Other activities include frequent bending and squatting
- Moderate physical stress and long hours sometimes required
