About the role - Engineer - Electrical and Instrumentation (Winnemucca, NV)
We are excited to announce a new opportunity at Orica for an Engineer - Electrical and Instrumentation within the Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals team.
The Integrity and Reliability Electrical/Instrument Engineer is responsible for ensuring the integrity, reliability, and optimal performance of electrical, instrumentation and distributed control systems (DCS) equipment on the Winnemucca site. The role involves conducting analyses, inspections, and evaluations to identify potential issues, improve system performance, and maintain compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Integrity and Reliability Electrical/Instrument Engineer collaborates with site teams and Orica global asset management teams to develop and implement strategies to enhance the performance, reliability and longevity of critical electrical, instrumentation and DCS assets.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety, Health and Environment (SH&E)
• Ensure all activities related to electrical, instrumentation, and DCS systems comply with regulatory requirements and Orica standards.
• Assist with the implementation of the site Alarm Management Philosophy including DCS changes.
• Assist with the completion of maintenance procedure job cycle checks (JCCs)
• Assist with the completion of major hazard management (MHM) audits and improvement actions.
• Safety Leadership Interactions (SLIs).
System Integrity and Reliability
• Develop and maintain integrity management programs, including risk-based inspection (RBI) and fitness-for-service (FFS) assessments for electrical, instrumentation, and DCS systems.
• Perform reliability analysis on electrical, instrumentation, and DCS systems using statistical tools and methodologies.
• Develop strategies to improve the reliability and performance of electrical, instrumentation, and DCS systems.
Preventive and Predictive Maintenance:
• Develop preventive and predictive maintenance programs for electrical, instrumentation, and DCS systems.
• Develop condition monitoring techniques to detect early signs of electrical, instrumentation, and DCS systems failure.
• Liaise with maintenance teams to support and ensure timely execution of maintenance activities.
Risk Management
• Perform risk assessments and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) to identify critical equipment and processes.
• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to reduce the likelihood of equipment failures and ensure operational continuity.
Technical Support and Troubleshooting
• Provide technical support and guidance on electrical, instrumentation, and DCS systems to operations and maintenance teams.
• Analyse system performance data to identify opportunities for optimisation and efficiency improvements, including DCS control performance and tuning.
• Lead investigations into electrical, instrumentation, and DCS systems failures and malfunctions and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Project Support
• Support or lead engineering projects related to equipment upgrades, replacements, and modifications.
• Ensure new installations and modifications meet integrity and reliability requirements, including operational readiness.
Documentation and Reporting
• Monitor the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records of inspections, assessments, and reliability improvement activities.
• Prepare and present detailed reports on equipment integrity, reliability performance, ongoing improvement initiatives and statutory reporting and compliance.
Continuous Improvement:
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
• Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in electrical, instrumentation, and DCS systems.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, instrumentation engineering, or related field.
• 5 years of experience in a similar role, ideally within a chemical plant or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation principles, and distributed control systems (DCS).
• Proven experience with reliability engineering techniques, including root cause analysis and failure mode effects analysis.
• Familiarity with industry codes and standards and regulatory requirements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Strong analytical skills to diagnose complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
• Ability to translate technical concepts into understandable terms for non-technical stakeholders.
• Skills in mentoring junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Integrity & Reliability Electrical/Instrument Engineer works collaboratively with maintenance team members, other site teams and Orica global asset management teams to ensure that the site's maintenance and plant uptime objectives are achieved in a safe and sustainable manner. This role is a member of the Winnemucca Maintenance team.
