What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technician - Laboratory position at Orica?
We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for a Laboratory Technician within our Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals Team.
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for meeting the analytical requirements of the Winnemucca Site, Nevada. This position provides Laboratory support to the Site’s Operations and Technical Teams for the purpose of ensuring the Processes are operating within the defined safety, compliance, quality, and optimization limits.
What you will be doingReporting to the Technical Manager, the Technician will be responsible for:
- Performing daily, weekly and monthly lab tests of product and process samples
- Collecting the product and process samples.
- Performing and providing guidance on non-routine sampling/laboratory tests
- Liaison between the Site and External Laboratories for various routine and non-routine tests.
- Ensure the analysis performed or contracted out is accurate and timely
- Developing and improving testing methodologies and procedures
- Ensuring the testing methodologies and procedures are aligned with company’s global standards
- Responsible for maintaining and reporting laboratory results
- Responsible for ensuring all lab equipment is maintained appropriately
- Provide guidance on collecting and analyzing abnormal materials
- Maintain and improve the Quality Manual
- Support capital projects related to Laboratory (i.e. LIMS, Lab Revamp, and sampling/testing improvements)
- Order laboratory equipment and chemicals to meet the above objectives
- Lead or participate in Investigations related to Quality concerns
- Training of Operations Personnel on Laboratory Techniques and accuracy
- Maintain the required Laboratory Certifications
- Join the Analytical CoP (Community of Practice) with the purpose of collaborating on best practice, method standardization and improvement agenda relevant to the position and requirements.
- The Technician will drive a culture of continuous improvement by supporting the analytical requirements of the other teams.

Profile description: What you will bring- Chemistry or Chemical Engineering diploma is an asset
- Greater than 5 years of relevant work experience (experience working in a Chemical Plant or mining industry is an asset)
- Working knowledge of laboratory equipment such as Karl Fischer moisture analyzer
- Statistical analysis knowledge is an asset
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical mindset
