We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our successful Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering Services team in our Houston (TX), Baton Rouge (LA) and Mobile (AL) locations as we continue to build excellence in every project we undertake.
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in industrial applications to lead and execute complex projects within an EPC environment. The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 5 years in Motor Control Center (MCC) and switchgear design, involving specifications, bid tabulations, and wiring. Proficiency in ETAP or other electrical modeling software is essential, along with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or the ability to obtain one within one year of hire. This role involves designing and developing electrical systems, providing technical leadership, and ensuring successful project delivery from concept through commissioning. Experience in industries such as refining, ammonia production, carbon capture, bromine processing, or grain handling is preferred. Project management experience and PMP certification are advantageous but not mandatory.
Essential Functions:
- Lead complex electrical engineering projects for industrial facilities including refineries, chemical plants, and terminals.
- Create comprehensive engineering deliverables including drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
- Design, analyze, and optimize industrial electrical systems, with emphasis on MCC design and implementation.
- Utilize ETAP to perform load flow, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies.
- Perform power system studies and engineering analyses for industrial facilities.
- Develop material, equipment specifications, and cost estimates for procurement packages.
- Review and approve vendor documentation, proposals, and technical submittals.
- Develop testing plans for commissioning electrical distribution equipment and interpret results.
- Provide construction support and commissioning oversight.
- Coordinate with multi-discipline project teams (process, mechanical, civil).
- Interface with clients, contractors, and vendors throughout project execution.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and client specifications.
- Mentor junior engineers and review their work.
- Develop scopes of work and technical bid packages.
- Perform site visits to gather field information, troubleshoot issues, and resolve technical challenges.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting schedule and budget requirements.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and risk assessment.
- Provide technical solutions for complex engineering challenges.
- Review and respond to contractor submittals and RFIs during construction phase.
- Maintain quality control standards throughout project execution.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while coordinating with project teams.
- Lead by example in matters of safety at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program.
- Minimum of 10 years in Electrical Engineering or related functional area with minimum 5 years of hands-on MCC and switchgear design experience required.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain within One-(1) year upon hire required.
- Project management experience and PMP certification preferred.
Ability to Travel:
- Site visits may be required with little or no notice.
- Must be willing to travel overnight and work out of town as required.
- Travel may be required between Office Locations.
Work Environment:
- Normal business office environment with moderate noise.
- The position typically performs tasks within assigned office facility but may require site visits to customer facilities and other office locations.
- Occasionally, may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at a construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles. For site visits, safety glasses and other safety equipment are required depending on task. Orion will provide all personnel with standard safety equipment.
Physical Demands:

- Occasionally, may conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
