Job Summary
We are seeking experienced and talented EPC Piping Designers at Levels III, IV, and V to join our Engineering Services Department. These roles involve advanced design responsibilities, leadership in project execution, and mentoring of junior team members. As part of our team, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing piping systems for complex engineering projects while ensuring compliance with industry standards and client expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead or contribute to the design and development of piping systems for small to large-scale projects.
  • Perform calculations related to area, volume, slope, and other design parameters using charts and tables.
  • Utilize 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, CADWORX 3D) to create layouts of piping systems, devices, and components.
  • Prepare comprehensive piping packages based on project specifications.
  • Coordinate designs with other disciplines such as Electrical/Instrumentation, Civil/Structural, Process, and Mechanical Engineering.
  • Conduct field data gathering as needed to ensure project deliverables align with approved scope and schedule.
  • Review designs for compliance with company and client standards as well as industry codes.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering colleagues, project managers, and clients through email, telephone, or face-to-face meetings.
  • Monitor project budgets and schedules while identifying scope changes and their impacts.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks to ensure their accuracy and timely completion.
  • Mentor junior designers by providing guidance on technical tasks and professional development.
  • Conduct all work activities in compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Computer Aided Drafting / Design Certification (CADD) and/or relevant work experience; AutoCAD or other CAD software
  • CADWORX 3D software and NAVISWORKS viewer experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of civil/structural industry standards and best practices.
  • Strong organizational management abilities, skills and attention to detail.
  • Teamwork, flexibility, integrity, and a high degree of professionalism are required.
  • Proficiency in MS Microsoft (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Must have valid driver’s license and suitable driving record that is able to meet company driver requirements and to obtain a TWIC card if required.
  • Ability to work in a multi-discipline fast-paced environment
  • Ability to read and understand policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Organized, goal driven and self-motivated
  • Commitment to high quality
  • Must be prompt, dependable, and have a good attendance record.
  • Must be able to pass an approved background check.
  • Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test.
  • Must participate in random drug tests.
  • Must not require U.S. sponsorship for employment eligibility.

Experience and Education:

  • Associate’s or Technical Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.; Technical certification and degree or equivalent experience required
  • 5 to 12 years in Piping Design or related functional area (or equivalent working knowledge/experience) required.

Work Environment:

  • Normal business office environment with moderate noise.
  • The position typically performs tasks within assigned office facility but may require site visits to customer facilities.
  • Occasionally, may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at a construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles. For site visits, safety glasses and other safety equipment are required depending on task. Orion will provide all personnel with standard safety equipment.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboard.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and climb on a ladder or up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle to and from job sites or office locations.
  • Must be able to attend job walks wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in an operating facility in a hot climate.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

Travel Requirements: Travel between office locations and client facilities may be required.
