Orion Engineers, LLC is seeking a Project Engineer Transportation to assist our team in delivering engineering services on existing projects and pursue new opportunities. RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Director of Transportation Engineering, a Transportation Project Engineer will assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking / signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and other related tasks. Candidates with a background in preliminary engineering or the development of detailed plans and specifications are recommended. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects. Activities will vary and can include :
- Analyzes information and data to perform routine design
- Receives instructions from the Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers regarding the expected general results.
- Research design options and document
- Responsible as a member of the design team for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
- Researches code
- Prepares environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project
- Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in the project schedule, scope or additional
- Assist or participate in preparation of project proposals and other business development
- May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.
- Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with emphasis on highway design, traffic and transportation.
- Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure for the State of Illinois required.
- Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical.
- 7 years progressively responsible experience as a Transportation Engineer or similar.
- Demonstrate familiarity with ISTHA / IDOT policies, roadway design and plan preparation, and construction.
- Must have experience with MicroStation design.
- Experience with Geopak SS4 / 3D experience with modeling, cross sections and SUDA a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in successful project management, client interaction, and staff development.
- Business development and marketing experience including writing proposals, scopes of work, and budgets for projected work.
- Valid drivers license required.
