Position Overview:

The Massage Therapy Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in both theoretical and practical aspects of massage therapy to students at Orion Institute. The instructor will guide students through their coursework, ensuring they acquire the knowledge, skills, and professionalism required to succeed in the massage therapy field. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong teaching abilities, in-depth knowledge of massage techniques, and a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Instructional Duties:

  • Deliver engaging, well-structured lessons in anatomy, physiology, massage techniques, ethics, business practices, and other related subjects.
  • Provide hands-on demonstrations of various massage techniques, ensuring students understand the proper body mechanics and safety practices.
  • Incorporate a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, multimedia resources, group discussions, and practical application of skills.
  • Foster an interactive learning environment, encouraging student participation and open communication.

2. Student Assessment and Feedback:

  • Evaluate students’ progress regularly through practical assessments, written exams, quizzes, and in-class participation.
  • Provide constructive feedback on performance, helping students improve and refine their skills.
  • Track student progress and maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and evaluations.
  • Offer additional support to students who may require extra help or guidance to succeed in the program.

3. Classroom Management:

  • Create and maintain a safe, respectful, and professional classroom environment.
  • Monitor student behavior and performance, addressing any issues or disruptions promptly.
  • Ensure that students adhere to all classroom and clinic protocols, including hygiene standards and professional conduct.

4. Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance and grading records.
  • Submit required reports to the Director of Education, including student progress reports and any other necessary documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation and organization of course materials, including textbooks, handouts, and practical training equipment.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and contribute to curriculum development as needed.

5. Clinic Supervision:

  • Supervise and mentor students during their clinical hours, ensuring they provide safe and effective treatments to clients.
  • Provide guidance on client interaction, professionalism, and maintaining a clean, comfortable, and confidential treatment environment.
  • Monitor student progress in the clinic and provide feedback on their skills and client management.

6. Professional Development:

  • Stay up to date with the latest massage therapy techniques, trends, and industry standards by attending workshops, conferences, and continuing education courses.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to improve teaching methods and enhance instructional effectiveness.

7. Communication:

  • Maintain clear and professional communication with students, faculty, and administration regarding course content, assessments, and student progress.
  • Address student concerns or inquiries in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors and staff to ensure the success of students and the smooth operation of the program.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Current licensure as a massage therapist (LMT) in the state (or region) of employment.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of practical massage therapy experience.
  • Teaching certification or experience is preferred but not required.
  • Continuing education in massage therapy and related fields is a plus.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and massage therapy techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain an engaging and supportive learning environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in classroom and clinic technology, including Microsoft Office, Google Classroom, and other educational tools.
  • Personal Attributes:
  • Passionate about teaching and mentoring future massage therapists.
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Adaptable and open to new ideas and teaching methods.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time or part-time position depending on program needs.
  • Work is performed in a classroom and clinic environment, requiring the ability to stand, demonstrate physical techniques, and interact with students for extended periods.
  • The position may require occasional evening or weekend hours for clinic supervision or special events.

Compensation:

  • Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
