What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dive Supervisor position at Orion Marine Group?
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is accountable for supervising dive operations in a marine construction work environment. All dive operations must be planned, performed, and completed in a manner that ensures the safety of the Diver. The incumbent will work closely with the Dive Foreman, Superintendent, Dive Tenders, and other Divers. If the diving activities are in support of Orion Marine Construction Inc. project work, the incumbent may also work closely with the Project Superintendent and other Orion Marine personnel.
The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, most importantly with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works as assigned by the Diving Foreman to ensure the safe and successful completion of all diving operations.
- Plans and performs such tasks topside and underwater as directed by the Diving Foreman.
- Conducts regular training with Divers to facilitate safety, knowledge of dive operations, and high performance.
- Ensures all diver-worn equipment is properly maintained, complete, and ready to use. As required, assist in the maintenance and repair of all diving equipment.
- Issues and obeys all commands or signals to return to the surface immediately.
- Performs the duties of the standby Diver as required.
- Reports any physical problems that may be encountered to the Diving Foreman prior to and after any dive.
- Follows all safe diving procedures in accordance with the Diving Manual, Orion Marine Group Policies and Procedures, and applicable regulatory guidelines.
- Prepares and has readily available to all dive team members an Emergency Plan on-site that includes the location and telephone number of the nearest recompression facility and the telephone number of the appropriate transportation agency to the recompression facility.
- Participates in Company-sponsored training on Company Policies & Procedures, mandated regulatory guidelines, First Aid, and CPR to ensure safe and efficient diving operations.
- Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance with State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. While working topside, this includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal flotation device, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location where the work is being done.
As it pertains to underwater diving projects, the individual must be capable of wearing insulated wet suits, swim fins, mask, commercial dive helmet, and self-contained breathing tanks in the performance of underwater dive projects.
The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
In addition, Diver Supervisors must also be capable of:
- Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another and normally involves physically getting onto and off of work barges, boats, vessels, or dock facilities of varying heights and access parameters.
- Working in underwater work environments of various depths up to 60 FSW.
- Standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting for long periods of time.
- Working in confined spaces.
- Lifting 50 lb. objects as required.
- Carrying 50 lb. objects as required.
- Adapting to extreme temperature changes.
- Adapting to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure.
