Position Overview
The Industrial Hygienist Technician plays a crucial role in identifying workplace health hazards and ensuring compliance with occupational safety standards. This includes assessing potential exposures to chemical and physical hazards (e.g., asbestos, lead, noise, pesticides) and collecting and analyzing various materials (e.g., bulk, air, soil) to evaluate potential pollutants. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with project managers, subcontractors, and field teams to deliver technical reports and recommendations for improving workplace safety.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct asbestos, mold, lead, and industrial hygiene surveys and oversight.
- Perform indoor air quality investigations, including mold, hexavalent chromium, and carbon monoxide.
- Utilize phase contrast microscopy for asbestos air and mold sample analysis.
- Conduct occupational health exposure assessments.
- Prepare and deliver detailed technical reports.
- Maintain accurate chain-of-custody documentation.
- Participate in underground storage tank site assessments and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
Additional Duties
- Enhance customer service and satisfaction.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate within a team.
- Maintain and operate instruments (e.g., sampling pumps, calibrators, microscopes).
- Travel periodically for out-of-area projects.
- Transport equipment using a private vehicle with current insurance.
- Work within state, federal, and government facilities.
- Pass a physical examination and wear a respirator as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to study for and pass certification programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with FileMaker is a bonus.
- Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift heavy weights (up to 50 pounds) and climb a ladder.
- Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities.
- Typing proficiency to ensure accurate technical reporting.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug test for federal installations.
Education and Experience
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in a related field.
- Considered: Relevant experience with a high school diploma.
- Additional qualifications: AHERA Building Inspector certification, NIOSH 582, Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor, or ICC Site Assessor certifications.
