Orion Solutions is partnering with a leader in child education and family solutions to find a GL Accountant.
The GL Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial data by recording, verifying, and consolidating transactions. They handle complex general ledger functions, including prepaid and accrual journal entries, and ensure timely period-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes. The role involves meeting strict deadlines for bank and internal reporting, analyzing accounts, preparing financial statements, and documenting variances.
Responsibilities:
- Exceed vendor/customer expectations by understanding their needs and maintaining proactive, clear communication and follow-up.
- Maintain a positive, respectful attitude toward customers, co-workers, managers, and visitors, and promote a positive company image.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting tasks, including journal entries, budget preparation, account reconciliations, audits, and reviewing financial reports/support.
- Prepare period-end reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, review using Oracle ERP, and submit drafts to supervisor on time.
- Analyze period-end fluctuations in income statement/balance sheet accounts, identifying variances.
- Prepare and/or review various month end reports and assist in review of Oracle ERP generated reports prior to distribution within assigned deadlines.
- Prepare schedules for year-end audits and quarterly reviews assigned by management.
- Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
- Analyze information and options by developing spreadsheet reports, verifying information.
- Prepare necessary schedules for the year-end external audit and quarterly reviews as assigned by management.
- Review and improve accounting procedures, recommending and implementing changes.
- Collaborate with Sr. Staff Accountants and assist with various projects as required by senior management.
- Assist on all projects within the prescribed deadline as required by upper management.
- Safeguard confidential information to protect the organization's value.
- Accomplish accounting and organization mission by completing related projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- 3-4 years of experience in public or corporate accounting.
- Experience with Oracle ERP and related tools is a plus.
- Solid understanding of US GAAP and SOX compliance.
- Strong customer service and follow-up skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Able to work effectively with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Dedicated work ethic, willing to put in extra hours to meet critical deadlines.
- Sharp analytical and quantitative skills, with a focus on accuracy and detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
