Orion Solutions Group is working with a large and rapidly growing warehousing/3PL leader with millions of square feet in SoCal and throughout the country. We are seeking an executive strong in port drayage operations to join as the Senior Director of Transportation in Carson, California. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of port dynamics and the SoCal market.
The Senior Director of Transportation is responsible for leading and managing all intermodal drayage operations across North America. This includes overseeing dispatch, driver management, and equipment utilization to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities:
- Operations Management: Oversee all aspects of intermodal drayage operations, including dispatch, equipment allocation, and driver performance, ensuring optimal asset utilization and alignment with service level agreements.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement business strategies to meet growth and profitability goals, ensuring alignment with company objectives and market demands.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to all DOT, OSHA, and port regulations, including driver safety training, accident procedures, and compliance audits.
- Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team. Oversee training, performance evaluations, and succession planning to foster a best-in-class workplace culture.
- Customer Relationships: Collaborate directly with clients to understand their supply chain needs, ensuring service excellence and long-term partnerships.
- KPI Monitoring: Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify improvement opportunities, optimize efficiency, and drive customer satisfaction.
- Industry Engagement: Represent the company at port and industry meetings, staying updated on regulations and trends to ensure competitive operations.
- Budget and Financial Oversight: Manage budgets, financial forecasting, and P&L performance to support company objectives.
- 5–7 years of leadership experience in intermodal and drayage transportation.
- Strong knowledge of port operations, including harbor, rail, and SSL requirements in major hubs like LA, Long Beach, and Oakland.
- Expertise in TMS platforms (e.g., Trinium, Samsara) and data analysis for operational efficiency.
- Proven ability to manage large teams, including up to 100 drivers, and oversee multi-location operations.
- Familiarity with industry laws and regulations (HOS, DOT compliance, customs requirements).
- Bachelor’s degree in logistics, business, or a related field (preferred).
- Spanish proficiency is desirable, given the industry workforce composition.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and entrepreneurial skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in driver recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
- Knowledge of overweight container handling, bonded movements, and U.S. Customs regulations.
- Ability to create and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process improvements.
- Expertise in managing safety protocols and accident/injury response procedures.
- $150-185K base plus bonus.
