Job Summary
This position will work in Enterprise Risk Management and be at the forefront of actuarial analytics as Orion180 expands into new markets and increases its product offering. You may be required to perform or assist with advanced actuarial analysis to develop new products, reprice existing products, estimate claim liabilities, perform catastrophe modeling, and optimize portfolios. Depending on the experience level, this position will be considered for our Senior Actuarial Analyst or Associate Actuary I positions.
Role and Responsibilities
The successful candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the following competencies to perform the functions of this position consistently. The requirements listed below are representative of the fundamental knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the job successfully:
- Establish appropriate statistical plans and analytical tools to analyze the experience of various product classification systems and rating plans.
- Assist in setting pricing and/or reserving objectives by developing strategies to support company goals in the areas of product development, pricing, catastrophe management, portfolio optimization, portfolio management, reinsurance, and finance.
- Monitor industry trends and professional research to stay current on products, regulatory environment, market conditions, and insightful alternatives to achieve goals.
- Perform analysis to support the overall pricing strategy, including enhancements in segmentation, risk loads, expense loads, and reinsurance costs.
- Prepare or assist in preparing filing exhibits and technology specifications to implement required rate actions.
- Create programs that develop and automate processes.
Skills and Qualifications
- 4 years of property and casualty insurance experience.
- At least 1 year of homeowners and 1 year of commercial insurance experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of catastrophe models is preferred.
- Pre-ACAS with exam 5 or ACAS credentials.
- Project management skills to schedule, organize, and complete assigned tasks accurately and on time.
- Proficiency in using SQL, R, and Excel.
- Ability to communicate and influence technical and non-technical audiences orally and in writing.
- Experience effectively managing multiple projects and confronting ambiguity.
- QGIS and Python are a plus.
Physical Demands
While performing general office duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and/or walk around (including the use of stairs). Other demands include the ability to openly communicate with others by talking, listening, and reading, being able to lift light objects (<25lbs), and using standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones. In addition, there is an occasional need to bend, twist or squat down to open/close cabinets, and reach for files or other standard office-type objects.
