About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic School Support Staff to join our dedicated team. You will play a vital role in ensuring a safe and positive school experience for all students by providing essential support during hallway monitoring and the Afterschool Care Program (ASCP). Your responsibilities will range from supervising students and maintaining a safe environment to fostering positive social interactions and managing student behavior.
Your Impact:
- Be a positive role model and ensure a safe and orderly environment for students during hallway transitions and the Afterschool Care Program (ASCP).
- Contribute to a positive and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Assist with the smooth operation of the Afterschool Care Program.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required, Associate's Degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field a plus.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with children in a school setting (experience with diverse learners is preferred).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Positive attitude, compassionate, self-motivated with a growth mindset.
- Ability to handle stress and adapt to changing situations.
- Proficient in conflict resolution techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Supervision and Safety:
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, dismissal, carline, after school activities, and throughout the school day to ensure a safe and secure learning environment.
- Enforce school rules and address inappropriate behavior in a positive and consistent manner.
- Assist with maintaining accurate student dismissal records and verifying authorized pick-up personnel.
- Patrol designated areas of the school during off-hours.
Classroom and Administrative Support:
- Assist teachers with basic technology troubleshooting in the classroom.
- Provide administrative support to school faculty and staff with tasks such as paperwork, scheduling, event coordination, and communication.
- Operate office equipment such as copiers and computers.
- Maintain basic classroom or office supplies by restocking or organizing.
- Assist with inventory control for specific school equipment.
Hallway Monitoring:
- Supervise student behavior in hallways and stairwells during class transitions and throughout the school day.
- Assist students with navigating the school building, especially younger students unfamiliar with the layout.
- Direct students to their classrooms or designated areas during transitions between classes.
- Encourage positive social interactions and respectful behavior among students in common areas.
- Collect permission slips or other student forms during hallway monitoring periods.
- Report any safety hazards or suspicious activity to the appropriate staff member.
Afterschool Care Program (ASCP) Support:
- Oversee and coordinate daily activities and routines within the ASCP, ensuring a safe and engaging environment.
- Plan and lead basic physical activity routines or short outdoor breaks during after-school care (weather permitting).
- Assist students with homework and independent study time.
- Organize and supervise engaging games, art projects, or other enrichment activities that are age-appropriate.
- Manage student conflicts and implement positive behavior management strategies.
- Enforce safety rules and appropriate behavior during after-school activities.
- Provide basic first aid to students with minor injuries.
- Assist with preparing and serving healthy snacks to students.
Safety and Security:
- Assist with conducting fire drills and lockdown procedures (under supervision and with proper training).
- Report any safety hazards or suspicious activity to the appropriate staff member.
- Monitor student behavior in high-traffic areas like hallways and stairwells.
- General Support
- Assist with basic tasks in the school office, such as answering phones, filing paperwork, or greeting visitors.
- Help with cafeteria setup and cleanup during lunch periods.
- Participating in school events and activities to provide additional support and supervision.
Skills:
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage stressful situations.
- Cultural sensitivity and understanding of diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting professionally with students and staff.
- Ability to give clear instructions and respond effectively to student concerns.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
