TITLE: AP English Language and English 2 (2025-2026 Academic Year)

Orlando Science Middle/High is a high-performing, AdvancED Accredited A public charter school, serving students in 6-12 in Orange County, Orlando, Florida. Our mission is to provide students with a well-rounded education with special emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and Reading in the light of research-based, proven and innovative instructional methods in a stimulating environment.

Job Summary: AP English teacher for 2023-24 academic year.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • Eligible or possess Florida Department of Education teaching credentials.
  • The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and administration.
  • Experience teaching AP English Language, and English 2 courses.
  • Experience using data to drive instruction.

  • Create a classroom environment that develops listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to effective communication and literate citizenship.
  • Possess effective classroom management skills as it relates to safe learning environment, discipline, and assessment.
  • Discover and develop special talents of students in the field of English to prepare them to their highest potential.
  • Have the ability to be flexible in working with students at all developmental levels.
  • Have skills in human relations and conflict management.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties

1. Teach content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, journalism to 9-12 grade students, utilizing curriculum designated by the Advanced Placement program.

2. Adapt English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans that guide and challenge students.

3. Develop lesson plans to demonstrate ELA concepts using models, other available technology methods, and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids, accommodations which ESE and section 504 students need.

4. Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.

5. Evaluate academic and social growth of students; keep appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.

6. Encourage students to think independently and to express original ideas.

7. Evaluate each student’s progress in meeting the course standards.

8. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.

9. Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health and attitude problems.

10. Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.

11. Supervise students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day.

12. Participate in staff meeting and the sponsorship of student activities.

13. Administer testing in accordance with division testing practices.

14. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Other Duties

1. Demonstrate mastery of the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida described in Florida Department of Education. http://www.fldoe.org/teaching/professional-practices/code-of-ethics-principles-of-professio.stml

2. Participate in various student and parent activities which occur in school including PVO, student clubs and after-school activities.

3. Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.

4. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
