We are seeking a passionate and innovative Fifth Grade Humanities Teacher to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year. As our school transitions to a middle school model serving students in grades 5-8, the fifth-grade team will work collaboratively to offer an enriching learning experience. The Humanities Teacher will be responsible for teaching English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies, with a strong emphasis on hands-on, project-based, and place-based learning that encourages students to connect their learning to real-world contexts.Key Responsibilities: Curriculum Development & Instruction: Design and implement dynamic, hands-on middle level lessons in English Language Arts and Social Studies that incorporate project-based and place-based learning strategies. Create opportunities for students to engage with content in meaningful, real-world contexts.Student Engagement: Foster a learning environment that encourages exploration, inquiry, and active participation.
Use project-based learning (PBL) to engage students in solving real-world problems and create connections between academic content and their communities.Assessment & Feedback: Use formative and summative assessments to gauge student progress and provide timely, actionable feedback to support growth. Assess both individual and collaborative student work in project-based contexts.Collaboration: Work closely with the Math and Science teacher to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities that encourage students to make connections across subjects.Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe to take risks, explore new ideas, and collaborate with peers. Promoting restorative practices and utilizing our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports framework.Professional Development: Continuously engage in professional learning to enhance your teaching practice, remain current on educational trends, middle level philosophy and best practices, and align with the schools mission and vision.Qualifications: - Bachelors degree in Education, English, History, or a related field- Valid teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification).- Experience teaching middle school students and the ability to demonstrate content knowledge in ELA and Social Studies for grades 5-8 (preferred). Passing score on Praxis II preferred.
