Medical Coder
Orleans Community Health at Medina Hospital is looking for a qualified and experienced Medical Coder to join our 5-Star team. The Coder must be a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), certified coding specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or graduate of an approved AHIMA or AAPC medical records program. The coder will specialize in the acute care setting responsible for using current accepted coding principles and guidelines to code inpatient, ambulatory surgery, outpatient and emergency records.

This position is hybrid with some onsite and some remote coding with the potential to be fully remote.

Position Summary
The medical coder thoroughly reads and interprets the documentation contained in every medical record to identify all diagnoses and procedures to which codes must be affixed as well as assesses the adequacy of documentation to ensure that it supports the principle diagnosis, principle procedure, complications and comorbid conditions assigned codes. This person must demonstrate a strong familiarity of diagnostic and procedural terminology, have the ability to apply knowledge of disease processes and to index medical terms/procedures to the appropriate class in the classification system, and to apply knowledge of ICD-10-CM instructional notations and conventions to facilitate location of the correct code (s) for each episode of care. Must also utilize accurate CPT codes for the procedural coding of ambulatory surgery patients and must follow all coding guidelines, rules and regulations when assigning codes.
Requirements
High School graduate
Graduate of approved AHIMA or AAPC medical records program with credentials.
Two (2) years’ experience using current ICD – CM and CPT coding in acute care, critical access, and/or ambulatory care facilities, preferred.
