ABOUT THE ORLEANS PARISH DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE (OPDA):
Jason Rogers Williams took office as the Orleans Parish District Attorney on January 11, 2021, and is building a 21st century prosecutors' office with a team of the best and brightest lawyers from around the country and a mission of being as smart on crime as the office has historically been tough on crime. New Orleans has led the world in convictions and incarceration for decades, without any corresponding decrease in crime. OPDA is simultaneously increasing safety and delivering justice with a laser focus on serious offense and a belief that every New Orleanian deserves the presumption of innocence.
ABOUT THE VICTIM WITNESS DIVISION:
Victim Witness staff members are trained to support victims and witnesses of crime, serving as liaisons between victims and witnesses and the prosecuting attorneys. Staff in this division educate the victim about the criminal justice process and victims' rights, ensure they receive appropriate case updates, offer emotional support, and help find necessary resources.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
· Ensure that victims/witnesses are treated with dignity, respect, courtesy, and sensitivity and that the rights as provided by Louisiana law are honored and protected.
· Provide case management, including referral and follow-up to programs that support crime victims and witnesses, and provide any needed services.
· Provide the victim/witness correct and timely information regarding the judicial process, case status and case outcome.
· Connect victim to notification services.
· Obtain information and documentation regarding financial loss sustained by the victim.
· Coordinate with ADAs to assist, locate, and facilitate cooperation of victims/witnesses needed for case preparation and court proceedings.
· Attend regular case review meetings with the Chief of Victim Witness.
· Engage in community outreach and education on crime prevention
· Perform other related duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Two years experience working with victims of property or financial crimes preferred
- Public speaking ability and effective communication skills
- Comfort with technology, including ability to learn case management software
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some weeks of over 40 hours
- Dependability in both attendance and work product
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salary: starting at $40,000
