Reports To: Superintendent or Superintendent’s Designee

Salary: Current Teacher Salary

Classification: Certificated - Teacher

Work Year: 11 Months – 185 Work Days

Position Description:

Under the direction of the immediate supervisor and within the framework of established welding industry procedures and CTE standards, the welding instructor will use their conceptual and practical understanding of welding and welding instruction to teach a wide range of welding skills to students in grades 9-12 at all Riverside Preparatory School and Mojave River Academy School sites within the Oro Grande School District. Topics will include, but are not limited to, welding techniques, welding fabrication, positioning, fit-up, equipment set up, welding theory, metallurgy and weldability of metals, print reading, utilizing welding codes and standards, and even inspection of welds. The welding instructor will be responsible for developing and revising curriculum and may be involved in other activities such as industry research, networking and outreach. Welding instructors are responsible for educating and training students on the various techniques and methods used in welding and play an important role in ensuring that the next generation of welders is well-prepared to enter the workforce. Welding instructors are expected to foster a safe, engaging learning environment that supports students’ skill development, problem solving, and career exploration in the field of welding.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging and effective welding instruction to students through the use of effective classroom management techniques, effective lesson and unit planning, and open lines of communication with staff, students, and parents.
  • Evaluate student performance, welding knowledge and skills, and provide feedback and support to promote learning and improvement through practical exams/assessments, projects, and written tests.
  • Teach students various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, stick welding, or any other relevant methods within the industry.
  • Document student progress toward standards and completion of the CTE welding pathway in alignment with school and state reporting requirements.
  • Support students in attaining industry-recognized welding certification by providing mentorship opportunities, networking with local industries, and partnering with local colleges and universities.
  • Encourage and support students in their exploration of welding and manufacturing careers by supporting them in career readiness and pathway exploration, as well as providing guidance on apprenticeships, trade schools, and training opportunities available in the field.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, including managing and organizing all equipment and supplies, to ensure that all equipment is accounted for and is in proper working order.
  • Instruct students on the proper use, handling and maintenance of welding equipment and tools to ensure that all classroom and workshop activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety by teaching and enforcing all protective measures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including district staff, site staff, parents, community members, and industry partners, to ensure a comprehensive educational experience for all students.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive welding curriculum, including all course content and methods of welding instruction, that meets state standards and industry requirements and prepares students for industry certifications.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay up-to-date with CTE and industry-related legislation and best practices in order to stay current with industry trends and advancements in welding technology, and regularly incorporate new welding techniques and technologies into instruction.
  • Participate in district, school, and community events that promote the welding program and highlight the success and achievement of the students in the program.
  • Participate in, plan and coordinate advisory committee meetings, staff and CTE department meetings, Career Technical Student Organizations, and professional development for all Oro Grande School District sites.
  • Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned. During periods of critical personnel shortage or other emergency situations, shall temporarily perform duties, as directed, within the authorization of credential/s held.

Ability to:

  • Independently travel to other Oro Grande School District sites to provide on-site support for students and staff.
  • Independently travel to off site locations to provide district representation at events and meetings.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Manage multiple projects and site/district needs simultaneously.
  • Show self-motivation and attention to detail in all aspects of the job.
  • Gather, organize, analyze, evaluate and interpret data.
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive reports and presentations, both verbally and in writing, using clear, concise academic language.
  • Utilize interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders and work effectively with all racial, ethnic, linguistic, economic and disability groups.
  • Model sound judgement, honesty and integrity in all interactions, and demonstrate understanding, patience, and approachability toward all stakeholders.
  • Research and follow all pertinent rules, processes, procedures, Federal, State, local laws and ordinances, Education Code, regulations and policies.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Fine manual dexterity to handle welding equipment.
  • Ability to talk, hear and understand speech at a reasonable volume.
  • Near and far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull items that may sometimes be in excess of 20 pounds.
  • Ability to read printed matter and computer screens.
  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, and reach.
  • Independently travel to all Oro Grande School District sites.

Education & Experience:

  • Verified three (3) years of related work experience or one (1) year related work. experience and 48 semester hours of related postsecondary vocational training.
  • Hold, or be eligible for, a California Career Technical Education (CTE) Credential.
  • Previous public, charter, or alternative school experience preferred, but not required.
  • Hold, or be eligible for, an authorization to teach English Learners.
  • Fingerprints must clear within 30 calendar days.
  • Hold a valid California Driver's License.
  • DMV Authorization of Release of Driver Record Information (Employer Pull Program) required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak Spanish is preferred, but not required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $71,809.00 - $101,676.00 per year
