What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Manager position at Orono Public Schools?
- Oversee scheduling of High School and Activities Center custodians. Develop and directly communicate assignments and daily routines to the custodial staff assigned to the facilities.
- Supervise and conduct performance evaluations of custodial staff assigned to the facilities.
- Submit position postings for vacancies and coordinate hiring according to District processes.
- Resolve first-level grievances as directed by the Coordinator of Facilities and Safety, according to the Custodial Master Agreement.
- Manage inter-District staff transfers in coordination with the Facilities Supervisor at Orono High School/Activities Center and the Coordinator of Facilities and Safety.
- Coordinate event set-up and take-down schedules with the High School Principal, Activities Director and Community Education.
- Ensure that proper maintenance of the physical facilities and equipment is maintained.
- Inspect and monitor systems for proper and efficient operation (e.g. heating, cooling, ventilation, furnishings, doors, Pool, playgrounds, elevator, etc.)
- Develop standards for cleaning and monitor routine and project cleaning.
- Ensure an adequate inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Oversee training of new and substitute custodians.
- Routinely monitor work of custodians to make sure district standards are met.
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned or as needed.
- Anticipates potential obstacles to service delivery and develops strategies to overcome.
- 3-4 years of supervisory experience, preferably supervising in an education institution.
- Must hold or obtain, within 25 months, a State of Minnesota 1st Class Boilers License.
- Must hold or obtain, prior to completion of the probationary period a Certified Pool Operators License.
- Additional related certifications and/or licenses are a plus.
- Ability to get along with district employees and be courteous and helpful with students and general public.
- Demonstrated ability to make thoughtful and prudent decisions on a variety of facilities and personnel issues.
- Demonstrated ability to combine a strong mechanical aptitude with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct performance evaluations of staff and to maintain high standards for service.
- Must possess working knowledge of the operation of school heating, electrical and fire alarm systems.
- Computer skills for operation of energy management system, building automation systems, email, and work order system, as well as performance appraisals.
- Ability to be flexible with schedule based on building needs.
- Ability to respond to emergencies and issues that arise on evening and weekends.
- Ability to stand and/or walk for 80% of work time, including twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, and/or climbing stairs.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work in a variety of conditions and environments (e.g. dusty, wet, cold, hot, high humidity, noisy, indoors, outdoors, at heights, and in small spaces.)
