OrthoCarolina Research Institute
. You'll participate in various aspects of clinical research, from conducting outcome studies using large database queries to cadaveric science with our biomechanical studies. You'll gain hands-on experience managing IRB submissions, patient recruitment, and data collection. The clinical Research Fellow will work with the supervising OrthoCarolina physicians and colleagues along with OCRI staff to conduct retrospective/prospective clinical outcome research, national database queries, basic science, systematic review/meta-analysis, cadaveric and biomechanical research. This is achieved through preparing and managing IRB submissions, implementing research designs, identifying and recruiting patient cohorts, collecting data, and preparing abstracts, posters, and manuscripts based on the findings of such studies. This opportunity will also include mentorship from the supervising physician and colleagues as well as time to shadow in clinic.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Works closely with collaborative research organizations, physician researchers, funding agencies and other healthcare professionals on investigator-initiated research.
- Ensures compliance with all HIPAA requirements and maintains strict confidentiality in all aspects of work.
- Exhibits skills in establishing and maintaining effective internal and external working relationships.
- Shares expertise and knowledge with OCRI staff to maintain and improve workflow and internal processes to increase productivity and research quality.
- Assists with protocol development, writing, editing, analysis and publication submissions.
- Writes and/or edits abstracts, posters, manuscripts, grants and research progress reports as required.
- Reviews, edits, and writes to ensure quality data and reports generated by Physician Researchers involved with OCRI research projects.
- Assists with the design of research protocols.
- Works with researchers to shape and direct research questions.
- Assists with grant applications to pursue financing for internal research projects as requested.
- Attends and presents at IRB, RAC, society and other meetings as requested.
- Attends professional conferences for presentation of research data as requested. (some travel required)
- Conducts literature searches, data management plan and REDCap database review for all assigned studies.
- Performs other responsibilities, duties and functions as requested from time to time by supervising physician.
Education Required:
- A bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, public health, or other related scientific field.
- Medical students between M2/M3 or M3/M4 interested in orthopedic surgery residency preferred.
