We are looking for a full-time Clinical Assistant in our Ballantyne Orthopedic Urgent Care. The schedule is Monday – Friday, 8a-5p.
The Clinical Assistant is responsible for providing and coordinating orthopedic patient care which includes performing routine office procedures and testing, participating in patient teaching, communicating effectively with others, and partnering with the physician/mid-level provider in the delivery of patient care.
Essential Functions:
  • Updating clinical notes in electronic medical systems
  • Completing phone triage
  • Casting and bracing
  • Performing routine office procedures
  • Providing patient education
Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of EMR (Epic)
  • Ability to triage patient telephone calls. Gather pertinent facts; be as accurate and concise as possible to assess patient health status and act as liaison between patient and provider.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively educate patients, families and staff regarding the full scope of patient care needs related to the care of patients with orthopedic problems.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly. Respond well to questions with patients, physicians/ mid-level providers and co-workers.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited program for medical assistants, athletic training, nursing or a college degree in a related field

CMA/RMA must be registered/certified through one of the following national organizations:
American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA),
National HealthCareer Association (NHA),
American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
American Medical Technologists (AMT)
American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
  • EMTs will need Emergency Medical Technician certification
  • ATCs will need to be board certified as Athletic Trainer
  • New graduates are welcome
  • Active & Current Driver’s license/ Clean driving record
  • Travel to other OC locations may be required.
Education required:
  • Graduate of an accredited program for medical office assistants or college degree in biological sciences.
Experience required:
  • > 2 years medical office experience.
  • Orthopedic experience preferred.
Professional license or certification requirements:
  • Certification from American Association of Medical Assistants or Registered through American Medical Technologies
  • Registered or Licensed Nurse
  • Athletic Trainer
  • CPR certification or ability to obtain.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to meetings and other offices.
Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Knowledge of EHR system.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly and respond well to questions with patients, physicians/ mid-level providers and co-workers.
  • Ability to document in EHR in a clear, accurate and concise manner, using acceptable abbreviations.
  • Ability to use the EHR to reflect the standards of use at the locations where assigned (This is in effect until EHR is fully implemented.)
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality. Completes quality assurance documentation as required.
  • Ability to triage patient telephone calls. Gather pertinent facts; be as accurate and concise as possible in order to assess patient health status and act as liaison between patient and provider. Knowledge of when a provider needs to be consulted.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively educate patients, families and staff regarding the full scope of patient care needs related to the care of patients with orthopedic problems.
  • Ability to coordinate care of patients with others.
  • Skill in casting techniques and patient education regarding cast care.
  • Skill in properly applying DME, instructing patient on the proper use and care and understanding the process of billing for DME products.
