GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The primary responsibility of the Patient Care Representative is to greet and register patients arriving for appointments with physicians and ensure all required patient information is collected and input. Thoroughly and accurately complete patient registration to include, but not limited to collecting/verifying insurance information and eligibility if not collected in advance of appointment.
Schedule: Monday-Friday 10am-7pm

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greets and registers patients in a prompt, pleasant and helpful manner; instructs patients to sign in; request and scan insurance cards; provide the appropriate secretary with the sign in sheet at end of session
- Verify and update all required information (demographic and insurance) and accurately enter data into Centricity
- Assures assignment of benefits by obtaining guarantors signature
- Assures patient has received and acknowledged receipt of OrthoConnecticut HIPPA brochure
- Assists patients in completing required medical history forms
- Collects all co-pays, unpaid balances and installment payments, generates a receipt and batches receipts with payments at the end of each
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- High school graduation or GED; post graduate degree preferred
- At least one year of work experience in a medical office setting
- Knowledge of medical office procedures and insurance verification
- Ability to demonstrate a mature, dependable, and responsible approach when interacting with patients, physicians, co-workers, and additional outside sources
- Proactive self-starter
- Understands referral requirements of major third party payers
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- Knowledge of medical terminology desirable
- One year office work / medical assisting experience
- Computer savvy
- Previous insurance experience is desirable
- Must be able to multi-task
