Position title: Hygienist
Purpose: The Hygienist is responsible for the oral health needs of the patients, working together with the Dentist and clinical staff to meet those needs. The Hygienist focuses on prevention and education for patients’ optimum health.
Essential Functions:

Essential Functions:
- Provides outstanding customer service with patient as #1 priority; partnering with staff, timely and successfully resolves patient complaints, concerns and questions
- Provides patient screening procedures including assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting and taking blood pressure and pulse
- Takes and develops dental radiographs as necessary
- Removes calculus and plaque from all surfaces of the teeth
- Applies preventive materials to the teeth, including sealants and fluorides
- Teaches patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health, including tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling
- Makes impressions of patients' teeth
- Effectively understands and utilizes company dental software, HRIS, applicable Microsoft Suite applications and other internet vehicles as necessary
- Understands company’s timekeeping system and enters hours worked and PTO appropriately and timely; gains pre-approval from Office Manager for overtime; notifies Office Manager immediately of discrepancy in hours paid through payroll
- Completes documentation in patients’ files and related clerical tasks
- Completes continuing education as required by office; monitors so that certifications do not expire
- Maintains facilities and equipment in accordance with hygiene and safety regulations including OSHA; follows required OSHA and Workers’ Compensation safety procedures and processes as necessary
- Travels as necessary for business related functions and training
Nonessential functions:
- Makes follow up calls for patients to check on applicable conditions
- Performs additional tasks as necessary or assigned to achieve office/company goals
