RN, Pre-Op/PACU Charge Nurse

General Description

The Charge Nurse assists the Nurse Manager in the daily clinical operations of the PACU/Pre-Op in accordance with established Federal, State, accreditation standards and Surgery Center policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the daily activity of the Pre-Op/PACU area, communicate any issues to the Nurse Manager.
• Coordinate efficient and fair staffing daily, based on schedule and procedural needs.
• Takes patient assignment when necessary.
• Coordinate staff breaks and lunches.
• Provide direction and guidance for staff members concerning individual competencies.
• Assist Pre-Op/PACU personnel in the evaluation of current practice through quality and performance improvement activities.
• Conduct Pre-Op/PACU orientations.
• Coordinate, facilitate, and manage change within the Pre-Op/PACU area.
• Coordinates with OR Charge nurse to manage patient census, patient acuity, allocation of resources.
• Reports equipment issues to nurse manager
• Ensure accuracy of medical records.
• Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
• Other responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current New York State R.N. license.
• BCLS, ACLS required PALS preferred
• Minimum 3 years’ recent experience as an OR Nurse, preferably in an Ambulatory Surgery Center.
• Charge experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
