The Hand Therapy Specialist plans and conducts individualized occupational therapy programs to help patients develop, regain, or maintain their ability to perform daily activities. They teach patients skills and techniques to use adaptive equipment for participating in activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluates the extent of the patient's disabilities and limitations to determine appropriate treatment programs.
- Plans therapy programs and administers treatment to restore body function and strength, relieving pain and preventing disability.
- Maintains medical records of evaluation, treatment, and progress of each patient.
- Demonstrates and maintains proficiency in rehabilitation of the hand / upper extremity, including knowledge of post-surgical progression and fabrication of custom orthoses.
