SUMMARY
The lead cast technician is also responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the casting department during their interim role.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervising Cast Technicians: Overseeing and guiding a team of cast technicians to ensure proper procedures are followed.
- Casting and Splinting: Applying casts, splints, and other orthopedic devices to patients as directed by providers.
- Patient Education: Providing patients with instructions on care and maintenance of their cast, including how to recognize complications like swelling or skin irritation.
- Quality Control: Ensuring all casting procedures are performed correctly and safely, adhering to protocols.
- Supply Management: Ensuring the supply room is well-stocked with necessary materials and that equipment is properly maintained. Submit orders weekly.
- Collaborating with Management: Communicating with providers and management regarding patient care and cast-related issues.
- Training and Mentoring: Training new cast technicians and supporting their development in the role.
- Administrative Duties: Managing schedules and documentation.
- Handling Complications: Addressing any issues or complications that arise with casts or splints, such as pressure sores or issues with alignment with manager consultation.
- Adhering to Safety Protocols: Following safety and infection control guidelines when applying or removing casts and splints.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School or GED preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification.
- Minimum three years related experience required.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
