What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant, Orthopedics position at Orthopaedic Medical Group of Tampa Bay?
Orthopaedic Medical Group of Tampa Bay is a fast-paced Orthopaedic practice with 9 locations. We are looking for a full-time Medical Assistant or Certified Orthopaedic Technician to join our team at our St. Petersburg office!
Education: Completion of an appropriate medical assistant program. High school graduate or GED equivalent required. An associate degree is desirable. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory.
Experience: Completion of a medical externship. Previous Orthopaedic experience, to include casting and splinting preferred.
Training: Must complete OMG orientation and training to include: On the job training and customer service awareness.
JOB SUMMARY:
Facilitates the flow of scheduled patients. Performs history and physical on patients as needed. Takes vital signs and documents them appropriately. Chaperones as needed for providers. Provides medical support to surgeons and orthopedic PA performing specialty care. Demonstrates clinical competence; maintains standards of care. Assists staff members in accomplishing the job. Promotes proper work ethic. Screens patients and maintains patient confidentiality and ethical practice. Cognizant of developmental stages and the specific needs of the patient population. Assists with clinic procedures, non-invasive procedures, and exams. Prepares, operates, maintains and therapeutic/diagnostic equipment. Applies cast/splints and instructs patients on care.
Applies Orthopaedic braces and instructs patient on care and use. Assists administrative staff on days with records maintenance, booking appointments, and daily office restock of supplies. PREVIOUS CASTING/SPLINTING EXPERIENCE A PLUS
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: As Required
EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Standard office and clinical equipment. Requires use of computer and electronic medical record (EMR).
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Combination of office and clinical setting. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic setting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, or hear. Daily job-related interactions will require the employee to push, pull, bend or squat. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk for extended periods of time; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 5 to 30 lbs or more. May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table, or pushing wheelchairs. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Stress can be triggered by workload and complex cases. Occasional stress caused by multitasking, level of responsibility, and workload.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime may be required and/or hours may be shortened as business needs dictate.
