OR Nurse - OMG Surgery Center

Orthopaedic Medical Group of Tampa Bay is a fast-paced and well established Orthopaedic practice with 9 locations and an ambulatory surgery center. The practice specializes in sports medicine, and surgical and non-surgical treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. We are looking to hire an OR Registered Nurse for our surgery center team . Previous OR/Circulating experience required.

EDUCATION: Completion of an accredited registered nursing (RN) program required. Must have Florida state licensure upon time of hire. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory.

EXPERIENCE: Preferred 2-3 years of OR/circulating experience, but a minimum of 1 year is required.

TRAINING: Must complete OMG surgery center orientation and training to include, on the job training, and customer service awareness.

JOB SUMMARY: Provides nursing care to the patient during the intraoperative phase. Performs nursing activities in the operating room where the circulating nurse is the patient's advocate. Answers patient needs by assisting the physician and person responsible for anesthesia care.

7. Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies and personnel.

• Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room.
• Organizes nursing activities efficiently; considers staff abilities when delegating activities.
• Considers cost-containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time.
• Assists with supply, drug, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability.

8. Addresses patient needs during admission to the operating room with attention to requirements specific to the outpatient setting.

• Transports patients to the operating room according to Facility policy, safety requirements, and patient needs.
• Identifies the patient and correct surgical intervention according to Facility policy and communicates with all surgical team members.
• Reviews the patient's medical record and needs to plan care with other health care team members.
• Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient; maintains patient's privacy and dignity.
• Explains intraoperative phase routine procedures and care to the patient.

9. Performs the circulating nurse's functions adhering to approved operating room procedures for the scheduled procedure.

• Prepares operating room according to the procedure to be performed and patient needs.
• Assembles and provides properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments before start of procedure; positions and adjusts equipment as required during the procedure.
• Anticipates needs of the surgical team; assists anesthesia staff by supporting the patient during administration of anesthesia.
• Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares the operative site as directed by established procedure.
• Monitors compliance with principles of aseptic technique according to accepted standards.
• Assists with identification and confirmation of operative site.
• Provides for comfort in the physical environment by monitoring designated parameters.
• Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care personnel and documenting records appropriately.

10. Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician.

• Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and direction.
• Documents patient care records and other forms accurately according to Facility policy.
• Accurately advises others responsible for patient care about the patient's status.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES: As Required

EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Requires use of computer and electronic medical record (EMR).

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a ambulatory surgery center setting.

MENTAL DEMANDS: Require constant and frequent judgment and response; occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills. Require language skills adequate for high-level written and interpersonal communication in American English.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Require high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities. Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, to stand for long periods, occasional overhead and low reaching, and to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Patient care activities may require the ability to exert force of up to 30 lbs. constantly, up to 40 lbs. occasionally and up to 100 lbs. rarely.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a Full-Time or PRN, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday.
