Work Schedule: Generally, Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm


This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, proactive healthcare professional looking to step into leadership. The Clinical Lab Coordinator ensures efficient clinical operations while fostering a supportive and organized environment for patients and staff.

Summary:

The Clinical Lab Coordinator plays a key leadership role within the clinical team, bridging direct patient care with logistical and operational oversight. As the first step in clinical leadership, this position is responsible for coordinating day-to-day lab operations, managing patient flow, overseeing supply management, and ensuring the lab area is prepared and efficient. This role supports providers and clinical staff while maintaining a high standard of care, safety, and service excellence.

This position requires compliance with OrthoEast’s compliance standards, including its Code of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element required as part of the job duties and is considered during performance evaluations.


Patient & Clinical Coordination:

  • Manage daily patient flow to ensure efficient movement from the clinic to the lab while ensuring a positive patient experience.
  • Coordinate the set-up and breakdown of clinical areas to ensure readiness for lab procedures at all times.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of lab supplies, ensuring timely ordering and restocking of all necessary materials, including injectables.
  • Oversee and coordinate specimen collection, including venipuncture and PRP processing, ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance.

Laboratory & Procedural Support:

  • Identify patients accurately using ID and documentation and verify all information prior to specimen collection.
  • Determine and perform appropriate venipuncture techniques based on patient condition, age, and other factors.
  • Ensure optimal quality and quantity of collected blood samples and other specimens.
  • Label, record, and transport specimens according to established procedures and compliance standards.
  • Conduct and assist with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) procedures alongside providers.
  • Lead the operations of the IOVERA Clinic, including scheduling, prepping patients, and assisting during treatments.
  • Develop and run the annual Flu Shot Clinic, managing logistics, staffing, supplies, and patient communications.

Team Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for lab-related questions or issues, providing direction to staff when necessary.
  • Collaborate with pre-op specialists and providers to confirm lab tests and procedures have been completed.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of lab activities, specimens, and procedural logs.
  • Serve as a support resource for Medical Assistants and the Pre-Optimization Team, stepping in as needed.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Uphold all safety protocols, infection control policies, and lab standards.
  • Ensure compliance with health regulations, maintaining a clean and organized lab environment.

Education and/or Experience:

· Proven experience as a phlebotomist or phlebotomy technician

· 1 to 2 years of medical assistant experience preferred

· Experience with and understanding of effective puncture techniques

· Knowledge of legal requirements about drawing blood, handling fluid samples and use of relevant equipment and material

· Excellent communication skills and ability to connect with various types of patients (such as children, elderly) and make them feel comfortable.

· Diploma in Phlebotomy or extensive on-the-job training


CPR certification.

Nursing skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and condition of patient.

Experience in maintaining confidentiality in dealing with sensitive issues.

Proven ability in making sound and accurate judgments in problem solving work issues.

Successful record of follow through on commitments and demonstrated dependability.
