GENERAL SUMMARY: The Paralegal will work directly with our General Counsel, outside legal counsel, and other OrthoPediatrics’ departments to prepare documents, assist in fact-finding projects and be responsible for developing and maintaining a system for relevant contracts, documents and other legal files. Position requires attention to detail, professionalism, and strong communication and organizational skills.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide support to the Company’s General Counsel on legal issues including but not limited to business transactions, intellectual property, litigation matters, and acquisitions.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Draft and/or review documents regarding, distributor and agency agreements, intellectual property and licensing agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and other technical agreements.
  • Responsible for maintaining and organizing files among cross functional teams and departments.
  • Assists in conducting legal research.
  • Work with outside legal counsel, as needed, with respect to the foregoing.
  • Monitor and track patents from various outside counsel and within organization to provide quarterly updates.
  • Perform essential duties and manages special projects as assigned by members of the executive team.
  • Oversee global healthcare compliance and ethics program designed to mitigate legal risk; track results, follow ups, and updates of the training program.
  • Responsible for tracking consulting agreements and participating in Medical Affairs Committee; drafting, filing, follow up to physicians. Collaboration between cross functional teams and departments to ensure accuracy.
  • Recommend opportunities to strengthen internal control structure for the business.
  • Self-monitor due dates to meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Demonstrate strong reporting and communication skills across all levels of organization.
  • Maintain oversight of Board of Directors website; upload minutes, organize folders, update news articles, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining domestic state registrations with coordination of internal and outside organizations.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for assisting the General Counsel with coordination of all outside legal counsel and the Administration department.


QUALIFICATIONS: Requires in-depth knowledge and experience with a minimum of 5 years of legal experience in field of expertise. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and management skills. Consistently demonstrates strong communication skills: both oral and written. Knowledge of current and developing legal issues and trends in areas of expertise. Demonstrates expertise in concepts, practices, and procedures in areas of expertise.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Associate degree or paralegal certificate required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum two years of legal experience required; paralegal, legal operations, or contract or case manager experience preferred. Understanding of contract law, legal process, regulations and agency rules, and court procedures and precedent.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and other employees of the organization. Requires excellent grammar and spelling.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Requires a valid driver’s license.


Other Skills and Abilities: Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment, such as a computer and keyboard, calculator, fax, photocopier, telephone, cell phone, etc. Requires proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to climb stairs, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is that found in a “normal office environment; noise levels during visits to other locations in the building may be moderate and occasionally loud. The employee occasionally performs work related to travel.
