SUMMARY : This position is responsible for practicing medicine with physician supervision including conducting examinations and writing prescriptions. Within physician–PA / NP relationship, PAs / / NPs exercise autonomy in medical decision making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. This position will provide hospital clinical and administrative support as well as manage the surgery center on behalf of Orthopedic Associates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
- Examines patients, obtains medical histories, and assesses health status.
- Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests.
- Prescribes medications, and treats illnesses including giving injections and suturing wounds.
- Consults with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA / NPs scope of work.
- Monitors therapies and provides continuity of care.
- Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems. Responds to emergencies including use of CPR.
- Coordinates appropriate specialty referrals.
- Counsels patient / family on preventive health care.
- Reviews patient records to develop comprehensive medical status reports.
- Documents patient information and care in medical record.
- Maintains department statistical database for research purposes.
- Out of state and overnight travel may be required for training and educational purposes.
- Availability for “on-call” status evenings, nights and weekends required.

Clinical Hospital Support :
Surgical assist
Inpatient- coordination with discharge planning of hospital including social services, if necessary, rehabilitation requisitions, take home prescription order
Primary Person
Administrative Support
a. Handle all the administrative support requisitions for the physician
b. Review and adhere to the hospital medical staff guidelines on scope of responsibility as physician assistant
