Position Summary: This position is responsible for providing professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices, assisting physicians and staff in coordinating patient care, and functioning as the primary liaison between patients, staff, and physicians.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Clinic Coverage:

- Assists surgeon during office hours by facilitating patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, specimen collection and preparing for exam.
- Provides patient education related to treatment.
- Answer, triage, or returns phone calls to patients or others involved in patient care of surgery planning.
- Prepares patient charts for next day’s appointments, including obtaining lab or test results, operative reports, referral information, etc.
- Works closely with staff to ensure office charges and surgery charges are submitted to the Patient Accounts department.
- Communicates changes to clinic schedule as needed.
Patient Care:
- During office visit may assess patient in preparation for physician appointment or independently as required.
- May provide hands on care such as removing dressing, removing sutures or staples, reapply wound dressing.
- Based on provider orders, provides fitting and application of various DME and orthopedic assistive devices.
- Draws up injections for physicians.
- Electronically retrieves x-ray or MRI images for physicians.
- Schedules pre-admission testing for patients by contacting PCP or hospital.
Administrative:
- Obtains insurance pre-certification as needed for diagnostic procedures, treatment or medication, or surgery. Schedules PAT, prepares consents, schedulers or prepares for surgery, etc.
- Assures that any special surgical instruments/devices have been ordered for surgery.
- Sends completed PAT’s to appropriate hospital/surgery center prior to patient surgery.
- Prepares x-rays and other patient information for doctor to take to surgery.
- Completes disability forms or other documents requested by patients, reviewing with physicians as needed.
- May complete BWC documentation for patient care and fax documentation when appropriate.
- Utilizes office resources to maximize office efficiency.
- Provides coverage for vacation/sick calls from other clinicians.

- Works cooperatively with coworkers, providers, and management.
- Shares knowledge and insights with co-workers in a constructive manner.
- Willingly provides coverage to department, staying beyond scheduled ending time when clinic schedule demands it, volunteering to cover time off or unexpected absences, maintaining workflow in department without direct supervision.
- Addresses conflicts with person directly before involving manager or uninvolved peers.
- Is considerate of others with regard to taking breaks or meal periods, use of computer and telephone, and noise in department.
Policies and Procedures:
- Knows and complies with policies and procedures as enumerated in the Orthopedic One Employee Handbook and policies and procedures documents.
- Provides assistance and support to leadership in implementing policies and procedures as necessary.
- Actively participates in training, and conducting day to day work activity by adhering to all policies and procedures as enumerated in compliance and risk management programs.
Education, Experience, and Certification/Licensure Required:
Completion of an accredited nursing program required. Current state nursing licensure required. Must maintain CPR certification including BLS/AED training. Orthopedic experience preferred.
