What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Scribe position at Orthopedics & Sports Medicine?
We are an independent orthopedic and sports medicine practice in Fairfax, VA looking for a motivated individual to assist our doctors with capturing medical notes and other information pertinent to patient care - also known as a medical scribe. The scribe will work closely with an orthopedic and sports medicine doctor and will be present in the patient room to document procedural and care notes. Even though the scribe does not perform patient care, they get an up-and-close opportunity and training to work with the doctor and patients, which is critical for individuals seeking to attend medical school, PA school, or expand their careers in the medical field.
This part-time position is a non-paid position that could be converted to a paid position for the scribe that meets our rigorous criteria. The patient care is fast paced and the scribe must be able to record all aspects of the encounter quickly. For this reason, the scribe must have an overview of anatomy along with medical terminology and be willing to learn. We are willing to provide on-site training for the right candidate that meets the requirements provided below. This opportunity is not for individuals looking for shadowing or short-term work. This opportunity is not for individuals that do not meet the skills listed below.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
- Record details of the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, physical exam, comorbid conditions, medications and allergies.
- Record details of the physical exam including pertinent positives, negatives and noted abnormalities.
- Record sufficient information in the physician's assessment and plan based on the level of complexity.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficient knowledge in musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge in general medical terminology, conditions, and interactions.
- Proficient computer and typing skills (> 60wpm preferred).
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to listen to the doctor and patient and type notes at the same time.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree preferred; Athletic Training, Nursing, Pre-Medicine or related field preferred.
- Medical office experience preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Professional license preferred (i.e. ATC, RN, LPN, EMT)
