JOB SUMMARY
Reports to: Head Coach, Activities Director, and Building Principal
Summary: Responsible for instructing athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Will have a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Osage Board of Education and responsibility for its implementation.
- Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
- Engages in professional growth by attending clinics according to District policy.
- Will read and have a thorough knowledge of information and policy as it pertains in the District’s Coaches Handbook.
- Works with the Activities Director and Head Coach in scheduling, providing transportation and requirements for tournament or special sport events.
- Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sports events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. Assists in the coordinating program with maintenance and school employees.
- Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
- Provides training rules and other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant.
- Recommends programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies in coordination with the Head Coach to the Activities Director.
- Assists in directing student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
- Monitors equipment rooms and coaches’ office, authorizes who may enter, and issues or requisitions equipment.
- Permits athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
- Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility. Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment.
- Assists in securing all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
- Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
- Promotes the sport within the school through recruiting athletes who are not in another sports program, and promotes sport outside the school through youth programs or in any other feasible manner.
- Responsible for working in collaboration with the Head Coach with the respective Booster Club members as a joint support network.
- Responsible for maintaining good public relations with new media, Booster Club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations and implements the same consistently and interprets for staff.
- Effective, professional oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and at the same time continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field
- Ability to recognize sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.

SPECIFICATIONS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS
- Certification, Teaching License, or other legal credential required
- Holds an Athletic Coach endorsement/certification or other legal credential; and any other associated training requirements therein (i.e. concussion, etc.)
- Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties are normally performed in a school/office/athletic field or gymnasium environment, and may include duties performed in each of those environments. Lighting is adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by dust or other materials. Temperature can vary with participation in any number of associated outdoor activities.
