Bus Driver

JOB SUMMARY
Summary: District encourages route drivers to take open activity routes, and transport students to and from school.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Obey all traffic laws.
- Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintain discipline when students are on the bus.
- Report undisciplined students to the proper authority.
- Keep the assigned bus clean.
- Keep to the assigned schedule.
- Check the bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
- Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Discharge students only at authorized stops.
- Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-district trips.
- Transport only authorized students.
- Report all accidents and complete required reports.
- Enforce regulations against smoking on the bus.
- Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job.
- Greet all students, faculty, staff, and visitors courteously.
- Maintain a positive rapport with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel.
- Dress appropriately for the position and work required.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students, and job, and communicate the same to the community.
- Drive assigned activity routes when necessary.
- Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility.
- Must be able to check all fluids and fill accordingly.
- Maintain confidentiality in the school operation.
- Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies, and administrative rules.
SPECIFICATIONS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS
Must be properly licensed and endorsed through the State of Iowa.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must meet the physical requirements, outlined by the State of Iowa. Must have the required physical completed as needed and agree to the mandatory drug and alcohol screening.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions may be in warm and cold environments, including, driving in rain, mud, snow, and ice.
